Myrtle Beach
Calabash Seafood Restaurants

Calabash, NC is a favorite of many people and is famous for its seafood restaurant choices.

It is located about 20 minutes north of the middle of Myrtle Beach and is known for its unique preparation of fresh seafood. The seafood is lightly battered and deep fried. Never pre-breaded or pre-cooked. Calabash-style seafood originated in this little fish town which boasts about 180 people, 32 restaurants, 75 fishing boats and a well-earned reputation for wonderful seafood. Due to its popularity, it has been picked up by many other area restaurants as well. So you can drive to Calabash, NC or go to a local restaurant in Myrtle Beach to enjoy this culinary treat.

Recommendation
Captain Nance’s, with a pleasant looking view of the water, is a good place to eat. From the back window of Captain Nance’s you can see a small fleet of shrimp boats which provide the delicate-flavored shrimp that is the mainstay of the Calabash kitchen. It is located at 9939 Nance Street SW, Calabash, NC.

We sampled the deviled crab that was crisp and spicy, without too much breading, fried oysters which were plump and flavorful. The star of the meal was clearly the shrimp, fresh, bite-sized morsels fried in a light batter and served in a heaping mound with tarter and cocktail sauce. There was more shrimp than I could eat in one sitting.

Recommendation
A local favorite of ours, located right downtown in Myrtle Beach, which serves calabash style seafood is Captain Bennett’s. They have excellent food with a variety of choices. We have never gone away hungry and have been delighted with the food and service.
