Myrtle Beach Museums |
While the primary reason you go to Myrtle Beach is to enjoy the beach and all the activities that revolve around the beach, sometime you want something different to do. There are a number of museums located in the area. They include The Art Museum, Children’s Museum, Wheels of Yesteryear, The SC Civil War Museum, Freewoods Farm, SC Hall of Fame and Ripley’s Believe It or Not. The Art Museum, June 8 through October 3, 2010, will show a survey of Gee’s Bend Quilts with Linda Day Clark: The Gee’s Bend Photographs. The isolated community of Gee’s Bend on the banks of the Alabama River, is the home of some of America’s most talented quiltmakers. They carry on a tradition that has endured for generations. Wheels of Yesteryear is one of the Southeast’s most impressive collection of American-made cars and trucks in one location. Many of the cars on display consist of Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth MOPAR cars, along with other American muscle cars. The SC Civil War Museum is located right beside Myrtle Beach Indoor Shooting Range on 17 bypass South. The admission is FREE. You will get to sight over the barrel of a cannon and through the gun port of a Confederate warship and view Ft. Sumter and the city of Charleston across the harbor. You will also be able to see period ladies attire from the area, view school books and children’s toys. You can see how elections were managed prior to and leading up through Secession and check out some newspapers of the era. There are displays of Confederate money, hand guns, rifles, cavalry sabers and much more. Hours are 0900 until 2100 Monday through Saturday. Freewoods Farm: Where history is fun. As the only African-American historical living farm museum in the United States, Freewoods Farm is devoted to recognizing and perpetuating the contributions of African-American farmers. Freewoods Farm, located in the Burgess community of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, provides education, documentation and preservation of the activities and practices of these farms. Ripley’s Believe
